Split This Rock is a national organization that uses poetry to inspire and connect communities, and to foster civic dialogue and action. We work with poets, educators, activists, and community members to create and share poetry that addresses the most pressing social and environmental issues of our time.
Split This Rock was founded in 2001 in Washington, D.C., and has since grown into a national organization with programs and initiatives in all 50 states. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and receive funding from a variety of sources, including the National Endowment for the Arts, the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, and individual donations.
Our mission is to use poetry to inspire and connect communities, and to foster civic dialogue and action. We believe that poetry has the power to change hearts and minds, and to bring people together to work for a better world.
We offer a variety of programs and initiatives to achieve our mission, including:

• The Split This Rock Poetry Festival: An annual festival that brings together poets, activists, and community members from all over the country to celebrate poetry and its power to change the world.


• The Poetry Coalition: A network of over 200 poetry organizations that work together to promote poetry and its impact on society.


• The Thematic Anthology Project: A series of anthologies that explore the intersection of poetry and social issues.


• The Poetic Practice: A professional development program for poets who want to use their work to make a difference in the world.

We believe that poetry has the power to change the world. By using poetry to inspire and connect communities, and to foster civic dialogue and action, we can create a more just and equitable society for all.
