The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) is a semi-autonomous agency within the United States Department of Energy responsible for the management and security of the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile. NNSA also conducts research and development on nuclear weapons and nuclear energy. The agency was created in 1999 by the Energy Policy Act of 1992.

NNSA is headquartered in Washington, D.C., and has field offices located throughout the United States. The agency employs approximately 50,000 people. The NNSA budget for fiscal year 2023 is $24.5 billion.
