John Bellamy Foster is an American sociologist, ecologist, and Marxist humanist. He is a professor of sociology at the University of Oregon and the editor of Monthly Review. Foster is the author of several books, including The Ecological Rift: Capitalism's War on the Earth (2012), Marx's Ecology: Materialism and Nature (2000), and The Vulnerable Planet: A Short Economic and Environmental History of the Earth (2016).

Foster's work focuses on the relationship between capitalism and the environment.
