The International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) are a set of accounting standards that are used by companies in over 140 countries around the world. These standards should require high-quality, transparent and comparable information in financial statements and other financial reporting to help investors, other participants in the world's capital markets, and other users of financial information make economic decisions.

IFRS are not mandatory in the United States. However, many U.S. companies voluntarily adopt IFRS because it can make it easier for them to raise capital in international markets.
