The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is a large open international community of network designers, operators, vendors, and researchers concerned with the evolution of the Internet architecture and the smooth operation of the Internet. It is a large open international community that develops and promotes voluntary Internet standards, in particular the standards that comprise the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP). It is the principal technical development body of the Internet Society. The IETF meets three times per year around the world and operates a large number of mailing lists and working groups that produce most of the standards used on the Internet. Anyone may participate in the IETF by joining a mailing list and contributing to the work of the working groups.

The IETF is responsible for a wide range of standards, including:
