Horry Electric Cooperative, Inc. (HEC) is a member-owned electric cooperative serving over 94,000 member-owners in Horry and Georgetown counties in South Carolina. We are dedicated to providing safe, reliable, and affordable electric service to our members. We are also committed to giving back to the communities we serve through our Operation Round Up program, which has donated over $2 million to local charities and organizations since its inception in 2003.

HEC was founded in 1938 by a group of farmers who were tired of paying high electric rates. They pooled their resources and built a small electric line to bring power to their homes and farms. Over the years, HEC has grown and expanded its service area to include all of Horry and Georgetown counties.

HEC is a not-for-profit cooperative, which means that we are owned by our members and any profits we make are reinvested back into the cooperative to improve our service and keep rates low. We are governed by a board of directors who are elected by our members.

HEC is a proud member of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) and the South Carolina Electric Cooperatives, Inc. (SCE&G). We are also an active participant in the community, and we support a variety of local organizations and events.
