Elhuyar is a Basque language technology center created on 1 January 1990 through the merger of two research centers previously dedicated to the development of Basque: Iker Basque (founded in 1984) and Ametzagaña SA (founded in 1986). Elhuyar is a non-profit organization, which, since its foundation, has been working through the research and dissemination of scientific, technical, and linguistic knowledge, and through the development of products and services that respond to the needs of Basque society.

Elhuyar's mission is to promote the Basque language and culture, and to contribute to the development of Basque society through research, innovation, and dissemination. Elhuyar's vision is to be a leading technology center in the Basque Country, and to be a reference for the Basque language and culture.

Elhuyar's main areas of activity are:

* Natural language processing: Elhuyar is a leading research center in the field of natural language processing, and has developed a number of tools and resources for the Basque language, including a Basque language corpus, a Basque language parser, and a Basque language machine translation system.
* Machine translation: Elhuyar has developed a number of machine translation systems for the Basque language, including a Basque-Spanish machine translation system, a Basque-English machine translation system, and a Basque-French machine translation system.
* Speech recognition: Elhuyar has developed a Basque language speech recognition system, which is used in a variety of applications, including a Basque language dictation system and a Basque language voice control system.
* Language technology: Elhuyar has developed a number of other language technology tools and resources for the Basque language, including a Basque language spell checker, a Basque language grammar checker, and a Basque language dictionary.
