Vermont Electric Cooperative (VEC) is a non-profit, member-owned electric distribution cooperative headquartered in Johnson, Vermont. VEC provides electricity to over 33,000 members in northern and central Vermont. The cooperative was founded in 1938 by a group of farmers and rural residents who were unable to obtain electricity from the existing investor-owned utilities. VEC is one of the largest electric cooperatives in Vermont and is a member of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA).

VEC's service area covers over 1,500 square miles in northern and central Vermont. The cooperative's infrastructure includes over 4,000 miles of overhead and underground lines, as well as 26 substations. VEC also owns and operates a 21-megawatt hydroelectric generating facility on the Winooski River.

VEC is committed to providing its members with safe, reliable, and affordable electricity. The cooperative's rates are among the lowest in Vermont, and VEC has a strong track record of reliability. VEC is also a leader in renewable energy, and the cooperative has set a goal of generating 100% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.

In addition to providing electricity, VEC also offers a variety of other services to its members, including energy efficiency programs, broadband internet service, and electric vehicle charging stations. VEC is a strong supporter of the local community, and the cooperative provides financial support to a variety of local organizations.
