The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is the most powerful body within the United Nations system. It is responsible for maintaining international peace and security and has the authority to authorize military action. The UNSC was established in 1945 as part of the United Nations Charter, and its original members were the five permanent members (China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States) and six non-permanent members.
