The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) is a voluntary initiative based on CEO commitments to implement universal sustainability principles and to take actions that advance societal goals. With more than 13,000 companies and 3,000 non-business signatories based in over 160 countries, it is the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world. The UNGC provides a framework for businesses to align their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, and to take action to advance sustainable development goals. By doing so, business can improve their sustainability performance, enhance their brand and reputation, and contribute to the creation of a more sustainable and inclusive global economy. Launched in 2000, UNGC is a key part of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The UNGC provides a platform for companies to share best practices, collaborate on sustainability initiatives, and advocate for public policy that supports sustainable development. The UNGC is also a member of the Global Compact Network, which brings together national and local networks of companies and organizations that are committed to advancing the UNGC's principles and goals.
