The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) is a public research institution in India dedicated to basic research in mathematics, theoretical physics, astronomy, astrophysics, biological sciences, chemical sciences, computer science, and science education. It was founded in 1945 by Homi J. Bhabha, the father of the Indian nuclear programme. TIFR is a Deemed University under the University Grants Commission of India.

TIFR has five centres: the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) in Mumbai, the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) in Bangalore, the National Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA) in Pune, the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS) in Bangalore, and the TIFR Centre for Interdisciplinary Sciences (TCIS) in Hyderabad.
