PIDA is a 501 (c )(3) charitable foundation working to improve the lives of low-income children and families in the United States. PIDA’s programs focus on education, health, and nutrition, as well as emergency assistance. PIDA also engages in public policy advocacy and coalition-building to address the root causes of poverty.

PIDA was founded in 1999 by philanthropist and businessman Alan B. Slifka. Slifka's vision was to create an organization that would help to alleviate poverty and its devastating effects on children and families. PIDA has since grown to become one of the leading anti-poverty organizations in the United States, with a staff of over 100 employees and a budget of over $100 million.
