The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) is a United States intelligence agency and a cabinet-level position within the U.S. Intelligence Community (IC). The ODNI was created by the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 in response to the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission. The ODNI is led by the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), who is appointed by the President of the United States and confirmed by the United States Senate. The DNI is the principal advisor to the President and the National Security Council on matters of national intelligence, and is responsible for overseeing the IC and ensuring that it is effectively organized and managed to meet the needs of the President, the National Security Council, and other senior policymakers.
