The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is a statutory body established by the NYSC Act of 1973 in Nigeria. The scheme was created to address the issue of unemployment and foster national unity among Nigerian graduates.

NYSC's mission is to develop a spirit of patriotism, nationalism, and selfless service among Nigerian youth. The scheme is mandatory for all Nigerian graduates under the age of 30 who have completed their education at a recognized institution in Nigeria or abroad.

NYSC operates a one-year program that comprises four main components:

- Orientation Course: A three-week intensive orientation course is held at designated NYSC camps across the country. During this period, corps members receive training on various topics including leadership, skills acquisition, and national integration.
- Primary Assignment: After the orientation course, corps members are posted to different parts of the country to serve in various sectors including education, health, agriculture, and community development.
- Community Development Service (CDS): Corps members are required to participate in community development projects during their service year. These projects are aimed at addressing pressing needs in the communities where they serve.
- Passing-Out Parade (POP): At the end of the service year, corps members participate in a passing-out parade where they are presented with certificates of national service.

NYSC has played a significant role in national development in Nigeria. The scheme has provided employment opportunities for thousands of graduates, fostered national unity, and contributed to the development of various sectors in the country.
