What would make Portra400 so green, faded, and grainy?

Oct 18, 2016 · So to over expose by 1/2 stop for the shadow you bring the shutter speed down to 1/350 for 400 ISO and the as you move down in stops (open up) you move uo your shutter speed. So f13 becomes 1/500, f11 becomes 1/750, f9.5 becomes 1/1000 and f8 becomes 1/1500.

May 29, 2017 · It's hard to overexpose Portra, so err on the side of a generous exposure. This is what I'd do personally, without wasting whole films on test exposures: Between 2 seconds and 10 seconds; give half a stop more, or 1.5 x the metered time. Between 10 seconds and 60 seconds; open up one stop or double the exposure.

The latest generation of portra 400 has incredibly fine grain for a 400 film. Skies can be very close to grain-free, which wasn't the case before. The big difference in Portra 160 is that it has very low contrast.
. Now, you can easily get grain by underexposing either one.

Jan 7, 2003 · I now have loaded in the camera (M6 TTL) Kodak's portra 400 UC. I was very happy with the NPH but have had some trouble finding it (without walking ten more blocks, anyway). The gentleman at the store told me Portra and NPH are virtually identical (though the NPH is roughly $5 for 36 exp. versus $8 for the Portra).

The 400 will be fine. I haven't made an enlargement of 20x24 from it, but in a 16x20 cropped from 6x6 it appears almost grainless. My normal print size is 11x14, and at that size the portra 400 is great. So you should be happy.
