IEEE 802 is a group of working groups within the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) responsible for the development of Local and metropolitan area networks (LAN/MAN) standards. IEEE 802 is part of the IEEE Computer Society. The working groups are responsible for developing standards for wired and wireless LANs and MANs, including Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.

IEEE 802 was formed in 1980 as a single working group, IEEE 802, which was responsible for developing a standard for a single LAN technology. Over time, as the number of LAN technologies grew, IEEE 802 was divided into multiple working groups, each responsible for a different type of LAN technology.

Today, IEEE 802 is made up of 11 working groups, each of which is responsible for a different aspect of LAN/MAN standards. The working groups are:

* IEEE 802.14: Resilient Packet Ring
* IEEE 802.15: Wireless Personal Area Networks (Bluetooth)
* IEEE 802.16: Broadband Wireless Access (WiMAX)
* IEEE 802.17: Resilient Packet Ring
* IEEE 802.18: Radio Regulatory Tag
* IEEE 802.19: Coexistence
* IEEE 802.20: Mobile Broadband Wireless Access
* IEEE 802.21: Media Independent Handover
* IEEE 802.22: Wireless Regional Area Networks (WRAN)
