The International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL) is a global network of non-governmental organizations working to eradicate anti-personnel landmines. Founded in 1992, the ICBL has played a leading role in the effort to ban landmines, culminating in the adoption of the Mine Ban Treaty in 1997. The ICBL continues to work to ensure that the treaty is implemented and that landmines are eliminated worldwide.

The ICBL is a coalition of over 1,500 non-governmental organizations in over 100 countries. The ICBL's members include human rights groups, development organizations, and organizations representing landmine survivors and victims. The ICBL is governed by a Steering Committee, which is elected by the ICBL's members.

The ICBL's work is focused on four key areas:

• Advocacy: The ICBL advocates for the universal adoption and implementation of the Mine Ban Treaty. The ICBL also works to raise awareness of the humanitarian impact of landmines and to promote the development of landmine-free technologies.
  


• Assistance: The ICBL provides assistance to landmine survivors and victims. The ICBL works to ensure that landmine survivors have access to medical care, rehabilitation, and economic support. The ICBL also works to promote the inclusion of landmine survivors in decision-making processes.
  


• Education: The ICBL educates the public about the dangers of landmines. The ICBL works to raise awareness of the humanitarian impact of landmines and to promote the development of landmine-free technologies.
  


• Research: The ICBL conducts research on the humanitarian impact of landmines. The ICBL's research is used to inform its advocacy and assistance work.
  

The ICBL has made significant progress towards its goal of eradicating landmines. The Mine Ban Treaty has been signed by 164 countries and ratified by 162 countries. The ICBL has also helped to reduce the number of landmine casualties by over 90%.

However, the ICBL's work is not yet complete. There are still over 100 million landmines in the ground in over 60 countries. The ICBL continues to work to ensure that the Mine Ban Treaty is fully implemented and that landmines are eliminated worldwide.
