FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a non-profit organization founded in 1989 to inspire young people to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). FIRST designs accessible, innovative programs that build not only STEM skills and knowledge, but also self-confidence, communication, and leadership abilities.

FIRST's programs are based on the competitive spirit and excitement of sport. Working with adult Mentors, students build and program robots to compete in a variety of challenges. Along the way, they learn teamwork, problem-solving, and perseverance. FIRST also offers a variety of other programs, including outreach programs for underserved communities, and scholarships for students who pursue STEM careers.

FIRST has a proven track record of success. A study by SRI International found that FIRST alumni are more likely to pursue STEM careers, and are more likely to be successful in those careers. FIRST alumni are also more likely to be involved in their communities, and to be leaders in their fields.

FIRST is a valuable resource for students, parents, and educators who are looking to inspire young people to pursue STEM careers. FIRST's programs are fun, challenging, and rewarding, and they make a real difference in the lives of students.
