Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international humanitarian medical non-governmental organization best known for its projects in conflict zones and in countries affected by natural disasters and epidemics. MSF offers assistance to people based on need, irrespective of race, religion, gender, or political affiliation.

MSF was founded in 1971 in Paris by a group of doctors and journalists who had worked in Biafra during the Nigerian Civil War. MSF charter formally defined its objectives and principles, including impartiality, independence, and neutrality.

MSF is a non-profit organization that relies on private donations for the vast majority of its funding. It has a staff of approximately 40,000 people, including 3,000 international staff and 37,000 locally hired staff. MSF works in more than 70 countries around the world, providing medical care to people in need.

MSF has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for its work in providing medical assistance to populations in distress, in particular for its pioneering work in the field of disaster relief.
