C40 is a network of the world’s megacities committed to addressing climate change. C40 supports cities to collaborate effectively, share knowledge and drive meaningful, measurable and sustainable action on climate change.

C40’s mission is to connect and support cities in creating and leading a sustainable future. C40 works with mayors and city leaders to develop and implement policies and programs that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality, public health and quality of life.

C40 is funded by a combination of membership fees, grants and donations from foundations, corporations and individuals. C40’s members include over 90 of the world’s largest cities, representing over 700 million people and one-quarter of the global economy.

C40’s work is focused on four key areas:

C40 has a number of initiatives and programs that support its members in taking action on climate change. These include:

• The Clean Air Cities initiative, which supports cities in developing and implementing policies and programs to reduce air pollution.


• The Climate Positive Development program, which supports cities in planning and developing sustainable new neighborhoods and districts.


• The Mayors Migration Council, which brings together mayors from around the world to share knowledge and best practices on how to address the challenges of migration and climate change.
