The Sustainable Sanitation Council (SSC) is a non-profit organization that promotes the adoption of sustainable sanitation practices. The SSC was founded in 2004 by a group of sanitation experts who were concerned about the lack of progress in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) related to sanitation. The MDGs were a set of eight goals that were adopted by the United Nations in 2000, and one of the goals was to halve the proportion of people without access to basic sanitation by 2015.

The SSC was also awarded the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour in 2016 for its work in promoting sustainable sanitation in urban areas.
