The Mekong River Commission (MRC) is an intergovernmental organization that was established in 1995 to promote and coordinate sustainable development in the Mekong River Basin. The MRC is composed of Cambodia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Thailand, and Vietnam. The MRC Secretariat is located in Vientiane, Lao PDR. The MRC's mission is to "promote and coordinate sustainable development in the Mekong River Basin through cooperation among its Member Countries."


The MRC's vision is "to be a leading regional organization in promoting and coordinating sustainable development in the Mekong River Basin." The MRC's values are "cooperation, inclusiveness, transparency, accountability, and sustainability."


The MRC's work is focused on four key areas: water resources management, environmental management, agricultural development, and navigation. The MRC also has a number of cross-cutting programs, such as the Mekong River Basin Initiative (MRBI) and the Mekong Climate Change Adaptation Initiative (MCCA).


The MRC is funded by a variety of sources, including its Member Countries, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and the United Nations Development Programme. The MRC's annual budget is approximately US$15 million.


The MRC has a number of partnerships with other organizations, including the World Wildlife Fund, the International Union for Conservation of Nature, and the United Nations Environment Programme.
