Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) is a U.S. Department of Energy national laboratory specializing in high-energy particle physics. Located in Batavia, Illinois, near Chicago, Fermilab is operated by the Fermi Research Alliance (FRA), a consortium of universities and research institutions dedicated to advancing the study of particle physics. The laboratory is named after physicist Enrico Fermi, who conducted groundbreaking research on nuclear physics at the University of Chicago.
