The Autonomous National Administration of Public Education (ANEP) is the governing body for public education in Uruguay. It is responsible for overseeing all levels of education, from preschool to university. ANEP was created in 1996 by Law 16877, which merged the Ministry of Education and Culture with the National Council of Secondary Education.

ANEP is governed by a board of directors, which is appointed by the President of Uruguay. The board is responsible for setting policy and overseeing the operation of ANEP. ANEP is divided into four divisions:

1. The Division of Preschool and Primary Education
2. The Division of Secondary Education
3. The Division of Higher Education
4. The Division of Technical and Vocational Education

ANEP is responsible for a wide range of educational programs and services, including:

* The provision of free and compulsory education for all children between the ages of 4 and 18
* The administration of public schools and universities
* The development of educational policy
* The training of teachers
* The provision of financial assistance to students

ANEP is committed to providing quality education for all students in Uruguay.
